The Company
Halifax is a British bank operating as a subsidiary of the third largest bank in the UK, Lloyds banking group. Halifax offers around 27 million customers banks accounts, loans, mortgages and insurance facilities.
The Challenge
A spreadsheet based reporting system which provided monthly management reporting was cumbersome in operation. Once the monthly data was received it took 3 days to prepare and distribute, due to the rework required on each report.
Could we find a quicker way of preparing the month’s results whilst retaining the spreadsheet format?
The Solution
Our bespoke solution consisted of two elements; redesign and automation.
The redesign split the data and reports into different spreadsheet tabs. Automation centred on 3 elements; data input, report preparation and lastly distribution.
Data input was automated by code by one button click.
Report preparation was redesigned as a matrix with formulae which was updated by selecting the month and year from a dropdown box and one button click.
Distribution was solved by storing managers email addresses and the report name which was then emailed to them through Excel with one button click.
The Result
The redesign had delivered an automated reporting system that the Reporting Department was able to receive data and now send out reports on the same day.
This has helped the Reporting Department’s busiest team members who work long hours after month end, by automating their work.

Reports are available much earlier for management.
Action can be taken earlier to rectify problems.
Reporting staff are less stressed as workload has decreased.
