Just count the heads

The Company

Fujitsu are a global group providing amongst many other products software services for large companies and Government organisations.

The Challenge

The largest cost in producing software is the human element by engineers producing code. Existing accounting and cost reporting could take up 3 weeks after month end to be delivered.

They needed a quicker way to get a report to local management.

The Solution

Our bespoke solution consisted of three elements; redesign, report writing and automation.

As a short cut answer to the problem, software engineers were required to complete weekly timesheets. The amount of time that a project consumed in terms of labour hours could be totalled weekly and monthly. This was written initially to a locally stored database on a server. The budgets were set as hours, against tasks for a given software project.

Given the existing data, all that was required was to design reports by project, by cost code, by individual and summary totals.

Distribution was solved by storing managers email addresses and the report name which was then emailed to them with one button click.

The Result

As a way of reporting just counting the heads working in a room works! Accurate timesheets is a step better. Timely report delivery is even better.

Reporting headcount is now done by Day 1 together with a rolling report of the last 12 months.

The detail of the project cost is provided 7 days later to allow for all staff to input details.

The Benefits

Reports were now delivered to management 13 days earlier than previously.

All of the features and more found in this bespoke solution are available in our month end reporting tool ConsolReports which totally automates Dashboard reporting and analysis for businesses.
